Selena Gomez and her friends on Wizards of Waverly Place signed off in style, setting Disney Channel’s record for the most-watched finale ever.

Friday evening’s special one-hour telecast of the series boasted 9.8 million total viewers from 8-9 p.m., topping CBS’ A Gifted Man in the hour for viewership by nearly 1.5 million. Easily the franchise’s most-watched episode, the closer also set series bests among kids 6-11 (4.2 million) and tweens 9-14 (3.8 million).

Notably, the Wizards of Waverly Place finale is the current TV season’s most-watched cable telecast among scripted programs. For a point of reference, the comedy has usually hovered around the 4 million mark during its four-season run.

Wizards ended the show with a big bang scoring 9.76 million viewers to close out the show and a lot of adults were watching it as well! Who does that?! We will sincerely miss WOWP and hopefully Disney keeps airing the show.

In a virtual tie in adults 18-49 (definitely not its target) was the series finale of Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place which averaged nearly 10 million viewers (9.76 million).

Selena had a phone interview with Metro about how the last day of Wizards was and how she felt about it. She also talked about the future.

TORONTO – Teen star Selena Gomez says she shed quite a few tears over the weekend as she shot the last scenes for her hit TV show “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

“It was bittersweet. … I obviously cried a lot,” Gomez said in a telephone interview Monday from Los Angeles. “It was really, really hard.”

“They called us to set and normally they call us separately … that morning they’re like, we want to bring you all in together,” said Gomez. “I just held on to them. It was really depressing.”

Gomez said the cast had a party Sunday where they danced, watched a blooper reel and said their goodbyes.

She even received a special souvenir.

“I took my wand that I’ve cast my spells (with) for the last four years,” Gomez said.

I posted two video of Wizards last live audience taping. This made me really sad to be honest. This is how I got introduced to Selena and I have never been a fan of anybody so much like I have been of hers. It is time to close this chapter of her life, but I’m sure she’ll go on to be an amazing movie actress as she transitions. We will always keep supporting her.
