Actress and singer Selena Gomez puts her money where her photos are with mobile photo application, Postcards on the Run.

Last fall, actress and singer Selena Gomez joined a $750,000 angel-investment round for photo-sharing app Postcards on The Run. The L.A. start-up, led by former MySpace exec Josh Brooks, lets mobile users snap pictures on their phones (both Android and ioS) and turn them into physical postcards at 99 cents a pop.

Since then Gomez has remained an active investor—she says she’s helped Brooks understand his app “from a 19-year-old’s perspective,” and encouraged him to add space on each card for messages. “I put my money into the project because I really felt like it had meaning,” she says, adding that she has over 700 photos in her iPhone. “I used to look through photo albums with my family and now I don’t anymore; I just scroll through my phone. There’s something really magical about holding a photo in your hands.”

But how does a 19-year-old celebrity become involved in tech startups? For Gomez, she has her family to thank. Step-dad Brian Teefey is the techie of the family and encouraged her to put her money behind the fledgling app more than a year ago. “I thought the idea was genius,” she tells me, “but when I talked to my step-dad about it he helped me reach out to Josh. It was cool because he was really open about my getting involved. He thought it was awesome.”

As my colleague Zack Greenberg points out in his Celebrity 100 cover story, Gomez’s paramour Justin Bieber has also fashioned himself a venture capitalist in the past 12 months:

… the singer has been quietly plowing millions into private tech startups. According to his manager, Bieber holds stakes in a dozen such companies. FORBES was able to verify four: messaging platform Tinychat, social-­curation app Stamped, gaming outfit Sojo Studios and, most critically, Spot­i­fy, the disruptive music service founded by Daniel Ek and backed by everyone from Sean Parker to Li Ka-shing.

Like Bieber, Gomez is insistent that she’s got to be passionate about a project to get on-board. “The thing is,” she says, “Is that there are a lot of things that people want me to talk about or endorse and I don’t like to do that unless it’s something that I really think has value. I think this is a really special app. And that’s the real reason I wanted to put my money behind it. It has meaning for me and I think it will have meaning for others.”

So is there more investment in the teen couple’s future? All signs point to yes for both parties. “It’s really exciting,” she says. “It feels great to find someone who is doing something you really believe is cool and then to get involved and help in whatever way you can, even if it’s just by adding visibility. I really like being able to add something of value in a new way, and so far, it’s been awesome.”

The film is based on the 1972 classic flick which had starred Ali MacGraw and Steve McQueen. “The Getaway” revolves around the story of a young veterinarian who gets into a seductive relationship with a bank robber, who then forces her to run away with him.

The handsome, Ethan Hawke is set to star opposite Selena Gomez in the film. So while filming had begun in Bulgaria, die-hard Selena fans had already set out to stalk the singer. Being as classy and sweet as ever, Selena made no big deal out of the hotel drama and simply moved on to another hotel.

It’s no big news that Selena is getting some action pumping scenes in “The Getaway” with Ethan Hawke. However, will Selena be ready to pump more than that if she does get considered for the role as Anastasia Steele in “50 Shades of Grey”?

Fans of the novel have spoken up and Selena’s name has been mentioned quite a few times. Other notable names in the list of casting choices for Anastasia Steele include Lucy Hale of “Pretty Little Liars”, Dakota Fanning, Mia Wasikowska and Emily Browning.

Yet, given the novel has been considered “mommy porn”, would Selena Gomez even want to star as Anastasia Steele?

‘Spring Breakers’ is Harmony Korine’s latest project starring Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine. The young actresses go wild for Interview’s May 2012 issue while Korine dishes on his new movie describing it as a “social experiment”.

‘Spring Breakers’ is Harmony Korine’s latest project starring Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine. The four stars are featured in the May 2012 issue of Interview magazine and talk about their new movie which also stars James Franco.
“When Harmony told me who he was going to cast, I thought it was perfect for so many reasons,” Franco told the magazine. “The young actresses are so excited to do a movie like this with someone like Harmony. They were so eager and enthusiastic to be a part of it.”

Speaking about her role, Selena Gomez says that, “I was getting kind of repetitive in terms of the roles I was picking, and I really wanted to do something that was completely different. It was a mark thing for me – like, ‘This is what I want to be doing.’ I want to be taking myself seriously as an actress, and this was definitely a stretch.” She next adds that, “I mean, I’d never smoked a cigarette before in my entire life. It was really funny – they had to show me how to do it.”

Ashley Benson confesses that, “Harmony wanted to break us all out of the good-girl mold. For Selena, Vanessa, and me, our audience is all in their teens or younger, so they’re not even going to be able to see this when it comes out — it’s not appropriate.”

According to Harmony Korine, the movie is more like a social experiment. “I liked the idea of the film as a social experiment. It was like there were two movies — the actual movie, and then the one that the media, paparazzi, and the people tweeting photos were also creating,” he told Interview magazine.

In the movie, four college students land in jail after robbing a restaurant to fund their spring break trip. The girl are bailed out by Alien (Franco), a drug-dealer and gunrunner, who seduces the girls into his world. “When I wrote the script, I started thinking about girls in bikinis with guns, wearing ski masks,” Korine says. “I was like, ‘Where would you see that?’ And the idea of spring break came to me. I just started imagining girls on spring break robbing places.”

Korine, who is best known for writing the script for ‘Kids’, a 1995 drama film directed by Larry Clark, says that ‘Spring Breakers’ is his “attempt to capture something that he’d missed the first time around.” “I grew up in Nashville, but I was a skater, so I was skateboarding during spring break,” he says. “Everyone I knew would go to Daytona Beach and the Redneck Riviera and just f*** and get drunk — you know, as a rite of passage. I never went. I guess this is my way of going.”

Spring Breakers is set to be released in cinemas in 2013.

Excitement is in the air – a hectic but vibrant buzz sharpens every sensation. Make-A-Wish® volunteer Susan is at the center of it all.

One Day Later…

Ella climbs into a limousine. Susan is there with the entire family as they arrive at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood. This is where Ella will meet Selena before watching her concert at the House of Blues.

The first stop before meeting Selena is the hair and makeup expert in the penthouse suite – Ella gets the star treatment. She has to get ready for the camera, for her meeting with Make-A-Wish CEO David Williams. The family pours their story out for the cameras.
That afternoon, Ella waits. Susan enters the room.

“Ella … guess who’s here!” Susan says as Selena strides in to meet an awestruck Ella.
They bond over conversation, video games and posing together for photos.

Before long, the day gets even more exciting: It’s time to leave for the concert.

The Lasting Impact of a Wish

While Selena heads backstage, a camera crew follows Ella. Concertgoers wonder who she is, and why she has an entourage. They take photos of the “mystery girl”. The concert begins – and transports Ella far away from her battle with leukemia. Selena has a special dedication for Ella: her favorite song, “Love You Like a Love Song.”

The expression on Ella’s face is priceless for Susan: This is why she is a Make-A-Wish volunteer – to offer a true-life transformation for a kid with a life-threatening medical condition

Selena Gomez may be getting her scream queen on in Eli Roth’s next flick, “Aftershock.” The details of her appearance are still pretty much a big secret, but MTV News had the pleasure of catching up with the singer/actress/perfume designer and learned more about what fans (and maybe even skeptics) can expect from her cameo in the horror film.

“I was in Chile doing a concert,” Gomez explained, “and he was shooting a movie called ‘Aftershock’ and he asked if I wanted to make a cameo. And I did!”

“It’s actually a very funny scene with him and I improving. And it’s cute,” she continued. “Well, I mean, the movie’s not cute. It’s actually scary, but the scene was cute.”

With “Aftershock” under her belt, she hopes to one day work with Roth again. She added, “And so we kind of became friends and hopefully we’ll be able to work together again. [He’s] very smart.”

Roth co-wrote and will star in the film, about a group of friends who must survive an earthquake in Chile. Nicolás López will direct. He also has a screenwriting credit, along with Guillermo Amoedo.

“Aftershock” should drop sometime in 2013. It’s a part of Gomez’s growing resume of more mature projects, which include the forthcoming “Spring Breakers,” as well as a role in Ethan Hawke’s next film, the thriller “The Getaway.”
